Subaru brings in a new WRX STI Spec C in returning to the WRC

Fans were very disappointed when Subaru quickly dropped out of the World Rally Championships back in 2008. But they have now announced their return in a strong way. Toshihiro Arai will be behind the wheel of a hard-core WRX STI Spec C model, built only for Japan, and will challenge Group N in August at the 2010 WRC located in Germany.

The new WRX STI Spec C will have some minor alterations in order to make it more of a racing compatible. The engine output will get a slight boost from the 295 hp and 299 ft-lbs of torque to 304-hp and 311 ft-lbs of torque. They will also cut some weight using an aluminum hood and a lighter/smaller battery. The addition of plexiglass windows and windshield, and new lightweight 18 inch wheels, drops a few more pounds as well. To improve the handling and drive feel, the WRX STI Spec C will receive a few more important parts. New, upgraded shocks, stiff bushings and springs, and a larger rear stabilizing bar all ad significant control to this vehicle. The combination of new Bridgestone Potenza RE070 tires, and a new mechanical limited slip differential allows the car to output all of its turbocharged excellence while staying grounded. Obviously the addition of the usual racing safety equipment will also be included in the alterations. Even though Ken Block has left Subaru for the Ford Rally Racing team, its looks as though Subaru will still be an extremely dominate force in the World Rally Campionships not only in 2010, but in future years as well.
