Subaru Introduces Legacy, Outback Pzevs

Subaru Canada, Inc. earlier announced the addition of 2009 Legacy and Outback models to its PZEV lineup this spring. The vehicles were introduced by the automaker at Le Salon International de l’auto de Montréal.

“We are delighted to offer Canadians the opportunity to purchase a vehicle that reduces their impact on the earth while retaining the fun, freedom, confidence and control that Legacy and Outback deliver,” said Katsuhiro Yokoyama, the president and chief executive officer of SCI. “The Legacy and Outback PZEV have also received SmartWay certification from the United States Environmental Protection Agency, and are listed in its Green Vehicle Guide that recommends the cleanest and most fuel-efficient vehicle choices.”

The 2009 Legacy and Outback PZEVs are equipped with an upgraded version of Subaru’s 2.5-litre 4-cylinder SOHC 16-valve horizontally opposed Subaru boxer that is capable of generating 170 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 170 lb.-ft. of torque at 4,400 rpm. Also, it utilizes the conventional unleaded fuel. All 2.5-litre engines are mated to the automaker’s AVCS variable valve timing technology that ensures optimization of the volumetric efficiency. The engines will be backed by a 4-speed electronically controlled Sportshift automatic transmission.

The PZEV lineup for 2009 will be made more captivating by featuring a power driver’s seat, heated front seats, as well as heated exterior mirrors with LED turn signals. The wagon versions will be given a retractable cargo cover. Additionally, the Outback PZEV will be featuring standard fog lights and a power tilt-and-slide twin-panel glass moonroof, reported the NewsWire.

Same with other Legacy and Outback models, the PZEVs will be featuring a wide array of auto features such as the keyless entry, cruise control, power windows, door locks and mirrors, split-folding rear seat, spacious cabin storage, dual-mode trip odometer, adjustable dash illumination, and a 100-watt stereo and an auxiliary audio input.

The PZEV designation is given to vehicles that comply with stringent emissions standards set by the California Air Resources Board. To note, the PZEVs of the Subaru wiper blade maker meet the Super Ultra-Low Emission Vehicle standard and eliminate fuel-system evaporative emissions. Subaru PZEVs have 90 percent cleaner emissions compared to an average vehicle.
