Chicago Nissan dealership proud of phenomenal Leaf mileage
The Leaf is here and so is the phenomenal mileage it brings – 99 mpg, if you can believe it. This popular little EV from Nissan is turning heads and promoting the construction of charging stations in several metro areas. Your Chicago Nissan dealership hopes to be delivering many Leaf models in the months to come.
The first Leaf ordered in the United States was delivered just weeks ago to a California man amidst much hoopla. In the meantime, other Leaf buyers across the country waited for their own Leaf models to be delivered. Customers of Lake County used cars may want to follow the Leaf’s journey as it becomes available in more states and gets more press on its maximum range.
Once the general public sees the fuel economy numbers on the Leaf there may be another buying frenzy in the Nissan showroom. The Environmental Protection Agency tests for emissions standards and fuel economy and the organization says the Leaf has a range of 73 miles on a fully-charged battery. Still, it’s better than the 30- to 40-mile range the early EVs were pulling. Not quite up to that 100-mile range Nissan was shooting for, though. Eventually . . .
The EPA also estimates the cost of charging the Leaf for one year will be about $561. Sounds like a bargain considering the gas prices which have crept into the $3 per gallon range. I could fill my gas tank about 15 times for $561 and that might get me through four to five months of driving. (I don’t commute.) I can’t imagine how much money an EV might save for the commuter.
Then there is the issue of charging stations. Not readily available in most areas, charging stations may be what makes or breaks the electric car movement. Although it is obviously here to stay, the rate at which it grows will be determined by available charging. Sounds like a great opportunity to make some money.
Although the Leaf is not available in the Midwest just yet, more states will be added in months to come and, we hope, charging stations along with the EV sales. Your Chicago Nissan dealership will be sure to let you know when you can get a Leaf. The Chicago area is likely to see some development in charging stations by the time that happens.
“Driving behavior, temperature — those things do affect your range,” Mark Perry, director of EV and Advanced Technology strategy in North America for Nissan, said. “We’re trying to be very open so folks are making the right decision for them. We don’t want them to be surprised.”
Your dealer of Lake County used cars is fascinated with the development of EVs and sees a solid future for the electric car in this area of the country.
