Callaway Diablo Octane Tour Driver designed to be Lighter, Faster, and Longer
Callaway’s latest driver, the Diablo Octane, is made with a very specific player in mind. “It’s really designed for the guy who is interested in distance, distance and more distance,” says Dr. Alan Hocknell, Callaway’s senior vice president of research and development.
What makes the all-new Diablo Octane Driver a revolution is the implementation of Forged Composite, a unique new material from Callaway that allows superior distribution of clubhead mass when compared with all-titanium drivers. The result? A lighter clubhead that retains an extremely high MOI. The Diablo Octane Driver powers drives beyond those of its all-titanium predecessors by an average distance of 8 extra yards. While the new 460cc Diablo Octane shares some features with its predecessor, the Diablo Edge driver—like a chemically-milled hyperbolic cup face and titanium sole plate—the biggest difference between the clubs is the use of a new material Callaway calls Forged Composite.
Tour Model
Callaway’s Tour models are designed for more accomplished golfers with features that provide greater versatility to attack the course with precision shot-shaping and trajectory control. The 450cc head incorporates a deep face with a smaller footprint. Combined with a full length tour hosel, an open face angle and less face progression, the driver has the look at address that is preferred by highly skilled players.
Fueled by Forged Composite
Forged Composite is the result of a unique partnership between the R&D teams of Callaway and supercar maker Lamborghini. Forged Composite is one-third the density of titanium, yet features a greater load carrying capacity per unit mass in bending. The Diablo Octane crown contains 10 million turbostratic carbon fibers – 500,000 per square inch – set with six tons of force during the forging process to reinforce 33 percent of the clubhead. These ultra-light, thin-walled components result in lower total head weight and optimized mass properties that make the Diablo Octane Driver lighter, faster, stronger.
