Jaguars 5.0 L V8 engines for the 2010 XJ Series
Two different engines are used to power Jaguar’s XJ sedan for 2010: a 5.0 liter AJ V8 naturally aspirated engine is installed in the base and XJL models, and a 5.0 liter V8 S engine in the XJ Supercharged, XJ Supersport, XJL Supercharged, and XJL Supersport. The standard 5.0 liter engine powers the car with a maximum of 385 horsepower at a rated 6,500 rpm. Four valves per cylinder torque deliver 380 foot pounds maximum at 3,500 rpm. The compression ratio for XJ’s base engine is 11.5 to 1. Direct injection gives the engine plenty of power driving it to its top speed of 121 mph. The XJ with this engine is rated at 19 combined miles per gallon (16 mpg city, 23 mpg highway) and the XJL with this engine gets 15 mpg city and 21 mpg highway for a combined rating of 18. The Pep and zip that this vehicle provides is sure to provide all the driving pleasure consumers expect.
The supercharged version of Jaguar’s 5.0 liter engine combines 15 mpg city and 21 mpg highway for a combined rating of 21.7 miles per gallon. As in the base model, this engine is naturally aspirated. This engine generates 470 horsepower at 6,000-6,500 rpm. The torque from this version of the engine is 424 foot pounds at a range of 2,500 rpm to 5,500 rpm.
The XJ and XJL Supersport models come supercharged to provide 510 horsepower from the same 92.5 bore and 93 mm stroke. The torque on this implementation is 461 foot pounds and the compression ratio is the same as the XJ Supercharged models. The engine in the XJ Supersport model propels the XJ to a maximum of 155 miles per hour.
