S10 Air Intake – For Improved Performance
In the beginning of 1980s the Japanese had been successful in the pickup market. To take advantage of such a favorable market Chevrolet launched S10 a compact pickup truck. It was an affordable and versatile pickup which could cater to the needs of a wide range of customers. Its two generations lasted twenty three years. The first generation was in production from 1982 to 1993 and the second from 1994 to 2004. The second generation vehicle was available in regular, extended, and crew cab body styles. The interior was comfortable for the driver to sit and drive. !998 saw an upgrade of styling and introduction of some airbags. Its S10 Extreme version was more suited to the streets and the ZR2 version was more suitable for off road driving.
There are accessories of vehicles which are meant to either improve its performance and/or to make its running economical. Air intakes are an after market product that help you improve both the performance and the fuel efficiency.. They bring in cool air from the atmosphere to the engine. The power is generated in the engine by combustion of a mixture of fuel and air. The oxygen in the air is the active agent used up in the combustion. Sufficient supply of air and hence of oxygen is necessary for full and complete combustion of fuel. Any deficiency thereof will lead to the fuel not being fully utilized. The engine would not generate the optimum amount of power from a given quantity of fuel. Moreover the air brought in by the air intake is cooler than the air inside the engine which is hot. Cool air is denser that means there is more of air in a given space. You thereby get more power from the engine and economize on fuel. In a good S10 air intake its length should be as short as possible and air should flow smoothly.
